I also experience this kind of freeze. It appears quite often when I'm using compiz. It freezes, but the mouse can move. Then I turned off compiz, and upgraded mesa, xserver, intel driver, and kernel to the very up-to-date git version.
It worked for two days without freeze, until this afternoon.
