Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg-driver-fglrx
I used update-manager to upgrade my 8.10 to 9.04. Unfortunately, the system hanged when starting X after the upgrade. My video card is a Radeon HD 4650, I installed Catalyst 9.3 in 8.10. After the upgrade, seems all the fglrx drivers were installed properly. However, when starting X, my screen flickered 2 or 3 times, and froze at a black screen with a bunch of color (red/orange/white) dots at the top part of the screen. Keyboard does not work, Ctrl+Alt+Backspace also does not work. Only thing I can do is to hold the power button :( I tried to boot into root console, and downloaded Catalyst 9.4, but it could not be installed, complaining about "Failed to add to DKMS". After spending more than 5 hours on this, I finally decided to download a CD image and install a fresh system from CD. The video works ok in the freshly installed system. Here is my Xorg.log. If would be nice if someone can look into this, in case when an ATI user encounter the same issue as I did. ** Affects: linux-restricted-modules-2.6.24 (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: New -- X enable to start after upgrading to 9.04 (fglrx driver issue) https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/363955 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
