Public bug reported: Binary package hint: xorg
This problem occurs with Ubuntu Edgy and (so far) Feisty. I have three computers, and each of them will not start X with the live cd/main install cd. I traced the problem to this line of xorg.conf: BusID "PCI:1:0:0" If I change it to this (sudo vim /etc/X11/xorg.conf) it will work when I "startx": #BusID "PCI:1:0:0" All three of my computers have onboard video cards, two of which have no way of disabling them, all three of them do not use the onboard video. Seeing this line removed from xorg would make me very happy, I don't if that line is useful for anything at all but there is probably more to it than I'm aware of. I feel that the line above should be completely removed from xorg going forward, xorg has always been able to select the appropriate device in my experience. Sorry if this is a duplicate of another bug, I did search before posting this. Note: The computers with this issue are a Dell GX50, a Dell GX150, and a custom built PC. The Dell bios options for video are only "Onboard" or "Auto". With the "BusID" line in xorg, Ubuntu insists on using the onboard video card regardless. ** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu) Importance: Undecided Status: Unconfirmed -- X Does Not Start From Installation CD https://launchpad.net/bugs/78755 -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
