Colin, Given the incredibly delicate nature of correctness in transactional databases, I would *really* encourage you to discuss this with upstream and make sure that you've identified all the potential dependencies of these changes. Clearly sqlite is already having backwards-compatibility issues; introducing strangely patched versions is likely to make things worse.
