Henrik, thanks. Here's what I did. I ran the self-test on the CD and that checked out to be okay. I also ran the memtest and there were a bunch of problems there that were corrected. However the problem still persisted. Which was very frustrating. I even mucked around with the partitions on the disk and completely wiped out all of them. However, I did do a disk integrity check and mounted the hdd through command as root. It took a really long time to mount but it eventually did and reported that the volume was clean. So I did a 'sudo ubiquity' and ran the install and that worked. I just wanted to let you know. Thanks for the help and if anybody is having the same problem just post back here.
