I'd also like to add that when the battery is not detected properly I can not change the brightness of my screen at all. The hotkeys do work (I see the brightness indicator come up and change appropriately) - but I can't turn up the brightness at all (the indicator comes up but doesn't move) and turning down the brightness makes no difference (but the indicator moves appropriately).
