Public bug reported:

I'm running Jaunty beta (2.7.28.11 updated April 10 10:00 UTC) from an
SD card. I run 8.10 on the hard disk. In 8.10 Fn+F6 reliably switches
the usb camera on and off. If the camera is switched on in 8.10 then
when I boot 9.04 from SD I can switch the camera on and off with Fn+F6
and the camera does work as expected. If the camera is turned off in
8.10 then after rebooting 9.04 from the SD the Fn+F6 combo has no effect
and the camera doesn't work.

I have compared the working and non-working cases.

The command

hal-find-by-capability --capability input | xargs -n1 lshal -u

shows extra stuff in the working case

udi = '/org/freedesktop/Hal/devices/us|  -------------------------------------
    button.has_state = false  (bool)    |  -------------------------------------
    info.addons.singleton = {'hald-addon|  -------------------------------------

also lshal -m show activity in the working case eg

$ lshal -m

but not in the non-working case.

I notice some changes in the dmesg output so I attach the working and
non-working cases in a tar gzip archive.
