It's a UK keyboard BTW.

I have just noticed that Alt does give me "€" from Alt-2, as printed on
the key which is good. It would be ideal to retain this functionality if
xorg.conf needs a different keymap.

Other keyboard layout gripes:

* Shift_3 should give "£" but in fact gives "#"

* The "~`" (tilde key) should be to the left of "Z" as printed. In
Ubuntu it's on the left of "1" which should give the "±" and "§"
characters.
