I don't understand that it was too little information, because the 
change in xserver-xorg-video-intel corrected that problem. However, 
after I successfully installed Jaunty and logged in, the use of vlc 
caused x to crash. Since these things didn't happen under Intrepid but 
only in Jaunty, I would not think it to be an xorg problem per se.
I really don't have time to deal with this. I simply went back to 
Intrepid. I'll leave it to others to sort all this out.
