Public bug reported:

Closed lid to suspend, reopened it to resume but found machine powered
down.

That's the most serious one among the three suspend failures I've
experienced on my Lenovo IdeaPad with Jaunty Alpha 6/Beta (and with
Intrepid before that), the other two being: (1) user session terminated,
login window shown after resuming from suspend, (2) password prompt
appears as expected on resume, but is almost invisible due to the
display being very dark (backlight off, I guess).

(2) has been the most frequent scenario and is easy to workaround: using
either of the Fn+Up/Down keyboard shortcuts to adjust the display
brightness will bring the backlight back on. (1), a terminated user
session, happens in about two out of ten suspend/resume cycles. And (0),
the kernel crash with the device being off completely, is rarer still,
occuring about every tenth time.

What I haven't seen yet is a flawless suspend and resume on this device.
I haven't tried hibernate.

ProblemType: KernelOops
Annotation: This occured during a previous suspend and prevented it from
resuming properly.
