Hi Ubuntu users.

Before entering the technical detail, please let me tell you how sad I
feel that nobody did bring these problems to the development team of
GCompris. Unless it's clearly a packaging issue I see no reason why the
development team of GCompris is not kept aware of problems found. That's
a real problem for us, there are hundreds of GNU/Linux distributions and
if every body discuss and implement workarounds in their distros, the
developers don't have the necessary feedback to make a better software.

That said there are 2 main problems that may occur in the administration module
of GCompris.
First, we use sqlite to store the activities, users and so on in the file
located there under your home dir:
.gcompris/shared/profiles/gcompris_sqlite.db

Sadly, sqlite doesn't work on NFS which means that if your HOMEs are on
NFS, it won't work. The workaround is to run GC with the --database
option or create a link from
.gcompris/shared/profiles/gcompris_sqlite.db to a local file.

To recreate the database if it's corrupted, you can erase it and start
GC again or use the --create-db option.

Another deep problem we have in the community is how and why we still
run old version of software. Here you talk about GCompris 7.2 which is
one year old. As a small development team, we don't know how to support
so old code. And more important, since our users don't use the new
version we make, we don't have feedback, neither on the feature or the
bug reports.
