Public bug reported:

Description: Ubuntu 8.04.2
Release: 8.04

When I connect my usb-stick, a new icon and a new nautilus windows
appeares on the desktop . If I try to disconnect it by context menu, a
dialog shows the following error message:

"Cannot unmount volume
The volume was probably mounted manually on the command line.
Details: Device to unmount is not in /media/.hal-mtab so it is not mounted by
HAL"

Further, I cannot write or delete files on this medium. I tried 3 different usb
sticks and an external hard drive.
As root, I can write, delete and unmount it (on the command line)

When the usb stick gets connected, dmesg says:
