OK, it doesn't have to do with updatedb either. Today I resumed from a more-than-week-long hibernation; the screen shifted while updatedb was running (as usual); I re-hibernated and resumed; the screen soon shifted again. I also checked for dmesg entries, but there were none at the time the error occured.
