It works for me. Here are my settings.

r...@jaunty# cat /etc/pm/config.d/01custom-uswsusp
SLEEP_MODULE="uswsusp"
SUSPEND_MODULES="ath_pci ath5k"

r...@jaunty# grep '^# defoptions' /boot/grub/menu.lst
# defoptions=resume=/dev/sda8 vga=789 quiet

You find the right resume device with:
r...@jaunty# grep resume /etc/uswsusp.conf
resume device = /dev/sda8

Remaining issue:
 - the screen is not locked after resume
