Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: autoconf

After a mishap with package management, I ended up with autoconf
uninstalled on two Jaunty machines-- one was installed from Alpha 2 and
has been upgraded ever since. The other was installed with Alpha 6.
Both machines had autconf removed by accident, and after a reinstall,
autoconf is failing to update resolv.conf.

* I've tried reinstalling, with and without NetworkManager running.

* I've tried dpkg-reconfigure autoconf / network-manager

* NM is /definitely/ writing the correct information to the ./interfaces
subdir. autoconf doesn't appear to be using it.

* A manual autoconf -u does nothing at all.

* One machine was running dnsmasq; the other wasn't. I tried
uninstalling, and later reinstalling on the machine that was.

* The closest I've gotten to a working config again is a single instance
of autoconf updating resolv.conf to say "# Generated by Network
Manager", with no other contents.

I've had to remove autoconf in the meantime and let NM update
/etc/resolv.conf itself to work around this problem in the meantime.
>From the description, it sounds like autoconf is pretty important for a
running Debian[-based] system, but I haven't noticed any loss in
functionality after uninstalling it.
