The above report differs from what I have seen in that there is some reaction
to mouse events.
in this state the only input I find has any effect is ctrl-alt-backspace, and
ctrl-alt-functionkeys.
I am still seeing this on current Jaunty everry day or two at least.
sometimes the mouse cursor will change on window edges and stuff, sometimes not.
I have seen it in gnome and KDE.
sometimes windows are grey when I switch back to X from vt, sometimes they are
as left.

Once again the USB audio device was connected when it locked up this time, but
I was not using it.
I have also seenn the lockup without it connected, but I will try once more,
due to this possible clue:

if music is playing when the screen locks, it will continue until the end of
the track, and then stop.
or maybe my playlist just always soon runs out. dont really think so, but I
will be more vigilant that its well-stocked.
this time, though, I noticed something stranger: music would continue to play
when I was on the X vt, or vt1, but would stop while I was on vt2, and start
again when switched back. didnt try other VTs before it stopped.
I was using pulseaudio this time, but I had removed it for about 2 weeks, while
I still saw these freezes.
there may be some clue in messages at the end of xorg.log, so I include it once
more.
