Public bug reported:

Anything USB you plug in will never work again. New install of kubuntu
6.10 on nforce 430/geforce 6100 gigabyte mobo. I started writing this up
last night in #54419 but that was a dapper thread. Since then, i've
updated the BIOS to F7

WinXP sees them right off the bat and says they are 'MALFUNTIONING' and
to replace them. The device name usually pops up, doesn't get the name
though....

Just used the 80gb usb mass storage device last night at home, no prob.
This is a new system at a different location. Started by trying to get
my ATI remote wonder to work with no luck. Then my 80gb usb drive with
a whole bunch of errors like so:

System is GigaByte GA-M55plus-S3G
Athlon 64x2 4200+ (32bit Edgy)
Integrated Geforce6100
NForce 430

Things I tried:
modprobe -r ehci_usb

Booting with the irqpoll noapic nolapic acpi=off options, switching off usb 2.0
in bios gave different errors, same thing, just low speed device, the usb
firmware was already hosed by that time. It's like the devices 'lose' their
name. Dual booting into winxp says every device is 'malfunctioning' or
unreconized. Tried a different computer with XP, same thing.
Took a 512mb usb stick to 'sacrifice' Plugged in at my house, OK. Plug in the
evil computer, get the above errors, plug into any other computer and they are
'dead'

This is a real showstopper for me. I guess(maybe?) the next test would
be to diable usb in bios and get a usb pci card. I need usb, and now I
have 3 things that are DEAD and I can't find any references to
reflashing usb firmware outside of a few cameras, mp3 players and
printers. Any pointers on getting a flash tool and .bin file would be
great, but I think it's not going to be worth my time since I don't know
what chipset was ever in these devices (Short of the ATI remote wonder)

The 80gb device was a 'homemade' ATA drive enclosure i got off ebay and
put my own drive in, so I can get another kit if I had to, but am very
leery of waving a usb cable near this computer. I should have tested
this in XP as it may be a mobo issue... Not going to frag another thing
though, unless I could reflash on another computer and keep testing!

Any help would be great...

Actually come to think of it, I have a broken HP ScanJet 5200c sitting
here, and I also remember having to reflash this due to a bug... So
maybe I can narrow this down some...

This is just the top of my dmesg as it's a mess with firewall blocks on
the bottom I didn't plug any usb in so the errors are above
