Yes, it helped and KDE now behaves as before: - if effects are off, scrolling is fast - if effects are on, then scrolling is choppy, but less choppy than after all day using KDE without XAA
Fortunately for me I don't use effects. But if I was, then it would be a compromise for me. In any case there is a bug in the ATI driver or in the KDE/Qt (or somewhere else). It is obvious, because after first start of the KDE without XAA the scrolling is fast regardless of the effects and the slowness comes after couple of minutes at once (and maybe later it is getting slowly worse).
