Not exactly, as explained by nVidia developer Aaron Plattner in https://bugs.launchpad.net/ubuntu/+source/compiz/+bug/269904/comments/33 it is a design problem in X itself. More precisely, the problem is in the XDamage extension, which notifies applications and other parts of X when the screen needs to be redrawn. It was apparently never designed to handle asynchronous rendering (as Compiz does with the nvidia driver). This can result in redraw requests being sent/received in the wrong order. The Damage extension needs to be extended to fix this, which is not exactly trivial.
