Ironically I just switched from jaunty kubuntu to jaunty ubuntu for a
system freeze issue after nvidia and kernel updates finished. I use a
Gigabyte A-E7AUM-DS2H with Nvidia Nforce and RealTek ALC889 +Geforce
9400. SPDIF worked in Kubuntub however for the life of me I cant get it
working in jaunty. Followed guides in forums and ran in to many dead
ends. Cant get digital audio out to work. Mixer shows three 1E958, all
relative channels were attenuated with combinations of all ie958
possibilities, aplay -l on a ac3 results in no sound. BEst case scenario
is a downmix in mplayer to oss 2ch. 64 bit jaunty installed.

New Volume Control in Jaunty should have an option to enable/disable analogue
surround and digital audio (IEC958/SPDIF)
