I am also experiencing a problem mounting data discs in 8.10. Having recently changed from Suse 10.3/KDE to Ubuntu 8.10/Gnome I have discs burnt with Suse/K3b. These discs mount very, very slowly with much disc activity using 8.10.
Discs burnt with Brasero behave in a similar manner. However discs written with the same files using Disc Creator mount quickly and reliably. When the mount is giving trouble I the following repeated many times over in the logs: Mar 6 15:23:10 dart kernel: [18011.130487] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Sense Key : Medium Error [current] Mar 6 15:23:10 dart kernel: [18011.130500] sr 4:0:0:0: [sr0] Add.
