i have the same issue, it is not a normal shutdown, it is like pulling
the power cable from a computer. when it happens it is a little random,
sometimes it will shutdown at the loading splash screen, sometimes at
the login screen, but most of the time within a minute of getting to the
desktop.

i have tried multiple distributions including Ubuntu 8.10/9.04 Alpha 5,
OpenSUSE 11, Elive 1.9.22, Mint, and OpenGEU, all of these have the same
problem, most of them i couldn't even load the live CD.

what seems to work is Ubuntu 7.04, FreeBSD, Windows XP, and Gentoo, all
of them work solid, but they do not work for what i need.

the laptop is a Toshiba M35x-S109
