ok, maybe there are more issues here than I thought... I unplugged that usb audio device, and rebooted the machine. no longer some odd X input device. still I could easily lock it with quodlibet, but this is not completely surprising as I am testing an experimental gapless playback plugin. so then I left if for an hour or two with audio via pulse, glxgears, flash video, java running, and it was fine when I returned, which appears to be an improvement. now, however, after some 2more hours use, it has locked, with no evident trigger. no display update, but mouse cursor does change at window edges, etc.
So it is possible the audio device being used as input is one problem (how to fix that?), but there is something else at least. I find nothing in dmesg, but Xorg.log may contain clues in its unusually long length. it appears it has got in a loop, possibly related to vga+dvi attached to same, not sure, but some monitor detection part is repeated many times, however, there are various other messages in between such as: exaCopyDirty: Pending damage region empty! so I will upload that log, and... unplug vga cable, I guess... would appreciate any clue on what is going on here... ** Attachment added: "Xorg.0.log" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/23541034/Xorg.0.log -- X stops responting/updating, console switching still works https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/338495 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
