This is certainly an upstream bug for pidgin. It should just use higher
res. icons for the protocol logo icons it passed to the notificatin
daemon. This is actually notification-daemon independent ... so a fix
for that would benefit the old notification daemon and notify-osd. Have
a look at a recent blog-post where I demonstrate the visual improvment
for passing higher res. icons to the notification-system ->
