Hi I'm using the open source "ati"/"radeon" driver (NOT radeonhd) since I have an oooold r200-based gfx card. Forgot to mention that in the first post.
Disabling visual effects did actually help a little on performance, but it still feels a bit slow compared to hardy and intrepid, although intrepid also felt slower than hardy.
