Let's try installing MP3 support manually then, since it's not working through Amarok.
First enable universe and multiverse repositories with directions from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/Repositories/Kubuntu Then install the mp3 packages from https://help.ubuntu.com/community/RestrictedFormats They are: libxine-extracodecs libarts1-mpeglib libarts1-xine libakode2-mpeg I think libxine-extracodecs is the specific package responsible for mp3, but it doesn't really hurt to install the others too. If you have any trouble, let me know and take a look towards the last comments of bug 61972 -- crash on exitting after installing mp3support https://launchpad.net/bugs/75444 -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
