I experience the same problem as jtlb. The Find button in the Find
window (Ctrl-F) and the Replace button in the Replace window (Ctrl-H)
only activate if I click the dropdown arrow and select a previous
pattern. If I instead type something into the box (which is blank when I
open the window), the button does not activate. Once I choose a previous
pattern, the windows work fine in the current document until I close it.

Specific steps to reproduce:
1) Open a new gedit window
2) Type or copy-paste some text into the window
3) Click Search > Find or Ctrl-F
4) Type in a search term in the "Search for:" box
5) Notice that the "Find" button is inactive

Expected result:
The "Find" button should activate when a search term is entered into the
"Search for:" box.
