Is this reproducible say over 10 cycles. Has suspend ever worked in the past, if so which kernel release (cat /proc/version_signature)? When it does hang in this way it is worth checking if you can switch to VT-1 and back to X with (ctrl-alt-f1 ctrl-alt-f7, sometimes the backlight is left turned off for instance. Also if you have another machine you might try logining into the machine over the network. If it is reproducible could you try the suspend from VT1, press ctrl-alt-F1, login, and run pm- suspend there. If you could test and report back here that would be helpful.
