For a long time now I have a connection problem with my laptop (Dell Inspiron 2200), using a Belkin Wireless G notebook PCMCIA Network Card.
I get around it by editing /etc/rc.local and add --- ifconfig wlan0 up iwconfig wlan0 rate 54M fixed exit 0 --- It is not solely an Ubuntu problem, because I have the same problem with Mandriva One installed on the computer. Now, last week I installed Ubuntu 8.10 on somebody else's computer and I used a Belkin USB stick to connect at the time. The computer was also a Dell, from the Demension series. Same problem. The broadband connection did hardly reach the speed of a telephone line connection. Same work around. So because of both times using a Belkin removeble card, I was thinking that it might be caused by the Belkin drivers. On the other hand. I read here on the side that many people with many different cards experience the same problem. So it might even be a kernel problem. But only happening on laptops, because my desktop using the same Belkin USB Card, does not have that problem. It puzzles me. And along with me, many others. The work around is easy, but only for those who know it. It might even not work on everybody's machines. I don't know. But please, try to figure out what is going on with the wireless connection on laptops, and preferably find a sollution. -- very slow network https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/311531 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
