Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xserver-xorg-video-ati

Ubuntu version: 8.10 Intrepid
Video chipset: ATI X1400
Package version: 1:6.9.0+git20081003.f9826a56-ubuntu2.1

I use my Lenovo t60 alternatively with the internal 1400x1050 LVDS
enabled, or with LVDS disabled but output on an external VGA 1440x900
display. I switch between the two with

   xrandr --auto --output LVDS --off
   xrandr --auto --output VGA-0 --off

When switching back from the 1440x900 external monitor setup, the bottom
part of the screen on the internal LVDS is garbled (below line 900), but
in a funny way (see also the attached screenshot; blank areas blanked by
me, these are not relevant for the bug):

  - it seems to be restricted to the workspace from which the switch was made
  - moving windows over the garbled parts just changes the garbling pattern,
but does not remove it.
  - when switching to other workspaces the garbling is present, but can be
'erased' by moving a window
    over it.

Xorg.log attached as well (which contains many mode switches, will try
to find a smaller set of switches which reproduces the problem if
required).

Thanks!
Kasper
