Unsetting Undirect Fullscreen Windows made it last a bit more, but I eventually got the same behaviour, and had to restart the session.
We can confirm here that intrepid with compiz eventually pops out of fullscreen for all fullscreen games we have tested, including enigma and prboom, both in a 32 and in a 64 bit machines. This doesn't affect fullscreen of other applications like evince or texmacs. After it pops out of fullscreen, mouse and keyboard usability are unpredictable.
