To summarize and to see if I understand this bug correctly; The original
report sounded like it wanted some feature added.  It already gave the
answer on how to achieve that feature with current packages, IOW nothing
to be done, correct?  Michael then added information on 2007-06-28 that
the grouping function produced unwanted side effects: the list of
"Obsolete and Locally Created Packages" being empty?

I can confirm the latter being still present on Jaunty, but it is not
necessary to do any fiddling with apt-preferences, this seems to be
broken OOTB: bug 334196.

Please clarify as to what this report is aiming to address.  One issue,
one report.
