I have Ubuntu 8.10 installed on a Sony Vaio VGN-FW11ZU laptop. It is not possible to adjust the brightness using the function keys <Fn><-> (dim) or <Fn><+> (brighten). (or by using the Gnome Power Manager Brightness Applet 2.24.0)
Using the instructions at https://wiki.ubuntu.com/DebuggingHal :- After clean reboot I entered the following into a terminal:- $sudo /etc/init.d/hal stop $sudo hald --verbose=yes --daemon=no 2>&1 | tee /tmp/hal.log I waited for output to settle and pressed the Fn Key and simultaneously the screen dim button (F5) three times. I entered the following in another terminal and then closed it:- $lshal > /tmp/lshal.txt In the first terminal I pressed CTRL-C to send an INT signal to kill the foreground hald process. Then I entered the following to start hal normally:- $sudo /etc/init.d/hal start Attached is hal_logs.zip.gz which contains:- hal.log, kern.log, lshal.txt. I am willing to try and create a patch. Any tips would be welcome. ** Attachment added: "hal_logs.zip.gz" http://launchpadlibrarian.net/23054506/hal_logs.zip.gz -- can't adjust brightness on sony vaio fe890 https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/266996 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
