I was using Ubuntu 8.10 and suspend/resume worked fine with the stable
kernel. The machine did not break, but when I resumed it there was a
black screen. I tried hitting Ctrl+Alt+Del to kill X but to no avail. I
tried clicking a few other buttons and moving the mouse but the screen
remained black. I have only tried this once and since suspending didn't
work, I've reverted back to Windows for the time being so this has only
happened to me once. My battery did not run out as my computer was
plugged in at the time. A message about a critical kernel error appeared
once I rebooted into my Ubuntu partition.
