I have been having this problem too. I just started using Ubuntu heavily again, so I can't really say what versions, though I have 8.10 and FF3. This happens all the time for me though... usually when a page loads. Not always, but for nearly all links and things that reload the page, it happens and I have to hit F11 twice to go to fullscreen and back, which fixes the problem. It is hard for me to recreate as it happens unpredictably, just when a new window or tab is created and sometimes on a link.
