What happens if you say you select "Use global Inbox"? Does that work?
No, there is no change at all. Does adding another IMAP account work? Yes, this works. I now have installed my Googlemail account as IMAP and not as POP. Now Thunderbird works as it should be, I find subdirectories like 'Inbox, Drafts, Sent, Trash' etc also under Googlemail. Now looking under Server-Settings, I find a path like /home/ludger /.mozilla-thunderbird/5it0chv1.default/ImapMail/imap.googlemail.com.
