the prompt occurred whilst installing the new libpam-ck-connector.

admin ALL=(ALL) ALL was still there, and I checked and I was in the
admin group. I'm still not sure what happened, but it doesn't matter
now. I ended up formatting and reinstalling everything (which I was
meaning to do anyway to use ext4). All this did was speed things up.

You were right when you said my password was still active, but it just
didn't seem to want to be accepted as the sudo password.

I tried to replicate the update in a VM but couldn't. I have another
machine exactly the same as mine which I am going to update. If I see
the same prompt, I'll post back here what was said.
