Perhaps an extra piece of info which may be useful - I've recently bought a Western Digital Passport portable hard drive. The USB transfer rates with this drive are good (7-10MB/s). However the USB flash drive performs as described by others above. The speed decreases after some 70-80 MB is copied and comes down to ~400KB/s. Running an up-to-date Intrepid.
