I found a new helpful bit of info: some videos work. Could this be a codec issue? For example, from the Google channel, this video works:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4XpnKHJAok8 but this one does not: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Q-Oq-9enE-k Even in the case where the video works, it looks terrible and youtube's recent skipping ahead feature doesn't work.
