The situation is more complicated. Short description.
There are two HP 1018 in my family (mostly because they should work fine with Linux). I have HP1018 in UK and my father in Poland. I think that until now both of them didn't use Ubuntu packages. Recently I reinstalled my Ubuntu and tried if the problem was fixed in Ubuntu. After some attempts with HP Toolbox printer started to work. In the meantime my father Ubuntu 8.04.1 crashed so badly that we had to reinstall it. So I tried follow HP Toolbox path once more (HPLIP guarantee support for HP 1018). We spent few hours without success. I think that the problem was that we couldn't download firmware. I decided to compare list of files with 1018 in a name on my father and mine computer. I found one of following files missing on his: /usr/share/hplip/data/firmware/hp_laserjet_1018.fw.gz /usr/share/foomatic/db/source/printer/HP-LaserJet_1018.xml /usr/share/ppd/hpijs/HP/hp_laserjet_1018-hpijs.ppd /usr/share/ppd/foo2zjs/HP-LaserJet_1018.ppd.gz I copied it, but it didn't help. After some time I tried to ran /usr/sbin/hplj1018 on my father computer and it failed so I compared the files and fixed my father one. After that printer started to work. But it isn't working today. There are a lot of error message during (slow) system start. What I going to do: Remove from my machine all the printer specific package and files and start again. -- HP LJ 1018 regression in hardy https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/217215 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Ubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to Ubuntu. -- ubuntu-bugs mailing list ubuntu-bugs@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/ubuntu-bugs
