Thank you for this bug report. First, you said this bug affects Firefox. Is this the only program having issues with sound, or are you having sound issues in general. (With everything?)
Second, we need to diagnose what the problem is. Could you open up a terminal and enter this command: aplay -l and cut and paste the results? Also, could you issue the command in a terminal: alsamixer -Dhw and tell us if the volume is turned up all the way for all things? In addition to submitting this information, you should go to the Ubuntu Forums: http://ubuntuforums.org/. They are usually very helpful in helping you fix your system.
