I don't know how to get root authority to cd to the directories you want. I have tried the sudo command without success.
I am the installer so I would think I would have authority with my password, but it's not working. Today I accepted the Ubuntu online offer to upgrade to 8.10 that appeared automatically.on 8.04. thinking that surely Ubuntu had caught all the glitches by now, I accepted the upgrade. After Ubuntu 8.04 processed the entire upgrade and the reboot was the only thing remaining to complete the process, it failed and I received the following error messages: Gave up waiting for root device.
