That leaves the original bug reporter's hang with cdrdao. Milan, did you try cdrdao directly, e.g. "cdrdao read-cd myaudiocd.toc"? Maybe try disabling HAL device polling with "hal-disable-polling --device /dev/scd0" during the attempt.
