I am also having the same problem in kde 4.2 in ubuntu 8.10.... Raised it in kde - http://bugs.kde.org/show_bug.cgi?id=182826 and got redirected here.
Could you please make the windows remember the size that is set by the user, whether it is a custom resize or a maximized size?
