I can confirm the bug, with both KDE 4.1 and 4.2. Unfortunately, with KDE 4.2 the option "Download and display custom emoticons" disappeared from the WLM plugin preferences. Hence, I do not have alternatives now and I loose contents of a conversation every time a custom emoticon is used. Note that I do not experience the same problem with Fedora 10.
