Public bug reported:

Binary package hint: xorg

Description: Ubuntu 8.10
Release: 8.10

fontforge uses bitmap x fonts for font-invariant glyph stuff. in particular, it
uses
the bitmap bigfive font in X. When the label glyph option is set to 'glyph'
image and
I use this font:

http://apt.nc.hcc.edu.tw/pub/FreeSoftware/free_fonts/wangttf/WCL/WCL-07.ttf

and then scroll down to the section containing CJK glyphs

fontforge crashes with the message

Error attempting to load font:
  -arphic-ar pl uming hk-light-r-normal--13-0-0-0-p-0-big5hkscs-0
The X Server clained the font existed, but when I asked for it,
I got this error instead:

X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 45.0 (X_OpenFont)
Serial number of failed request: 428577
  Failed resource ID: 28000f2
Aborted

When I try to view this font in xfontsel, I can get as far as setting the
foundry to be arphic, then
when I try to set the family to "ar pl uming hk", the following X_OpenFont
error occurs.

-...@xenon:~$ xfontsel
X Error of failed request: BadValue (integer parameter out of range for
operation)
Major opcode of failed request: 45 (X_OpenFont)
  Value in failed request: 0x280005e
Serial number of failed request: 1484
Current serial number in output stream: 1485

** Affects: xorg (Ubuntu)
     Importance: Undecided
         Status: New
