** Description changed: Binary package hint: amarok One of the quirks about Amarok that I've never seemed to be able to avoid without having to manually install some sort of secondary decoder package (after conducting a research project to figure out what's actually missing) is the fact that if you install Ubuntu fresh, even if you add the restricted-extra package, Amarok fails to play the included default radio stations it includes in it's "Cool/Shoutcast Playlists" because it says "There is no available decoder". I approached the Amarok Forums with this problem, and they feel the blame is on Ubuntu and the way it distributes Amarok via Synaptic or Add/Remove, as it fails to bundle in the necessary decoders to play these stations. You can read their reply to my post here: http://amarok.kde.org/forum/index.php/topic,16433.msg25924.html#msg25924 Would it be so difficult to have the metapackage or whatever include the one or two more little decoder packages that Amarok wants so these radio stations will work "out of the box." New users shouldn't be required to fix this themselves. + + EDIT: After doing a little research, it appears that those who have + installed the Kubuntu-restricted-extras packages do not encounter this + error because it includes the libxine1-ffmpeg package within it, while + the GNOME oriented ubuntu-restricted-extras package does not. + libxine1-ffmpeg is the package needed to be installed in order to get + Amarok's bundled radio streams to play correctly without an error about + "no available decoder". Perhaps while installing Amarok, either via + Add/Remove or via Synaptic, libxine1-ffmpeg could be recommended as an + additional package people can opt to install along side Amarok so they + don't have a disappointing experience with the program upon first + running it. -- Amarok not packaged with necessary decoders to play bundled radio stations https://bugs.launchpad.net/bugs/323647 You received this bug notification because you are a member of Kubuntu Bugs, which is subscribed to amarok in ubuntu. -- kubuntu-bugs mailing list kubuntu-b...@lists.ubuntu.com https://lists.ubuntu.com/mailman/listinfo/kubuntu-bugs
