I have not had the opportunity to do a fresh install of 8.10 on a system with a large (i.e. TB) disk. I have however recently installed 8.10 on a eee pc 900a with 32 GB SSD and 2 GB RAM. Using the default settings for encrypted LVM resulted in only 256 MB of swap space. This was insufficient to hibernate the machine and very frustrating since the swap size is not evident until after the OS is loaded so I had to reinstall using manual encrypted LVM configuration. Since encrypted LVM is becoming most essential for many users, especially those in business or using laptops, I suggest that the alternative installer software be modified as follows: 1. always display disk and LVM configuration settings and request user ok prior to formatting & installing 2. give the user the option to modify default settings on LVM volume size (especially on swap) without having to go through a completely manual encrypted LVM installation.
