KDE 4.2 seems to prevent the xte / reset workaround from succeeding. I have a powerful machine (quad CPU, plenty of memory, good GPU) so it's not as if things should be overloaded by the UI; and yet, running firefox / amarok / eclipse is enough to cause frequent occurrences of this bug that cannot be xte'd around.
