Justin, Does my package fix the problem for you?
My patch is just adapted from Red Hat's patch. This removes the assumption that a file can be renamed while it is open by closing files first before renaming them during the save process. On a normal Unix filesystem this is permitted. On Windows, for example, it isn't. If my package does not solve your problem, then I think we are talking about two different bugs.
